4 Fort Crescent was built around 1825, this engraving of the view from the (now demolished) pier is dated 1868.
Number 4 is the house just to the left of the shorter house in the right-most block above.
Situated on the Margate clifftop, it looks across Fort Green - out to sea.
Margate is in the Isle of Thanet, in East Kent, South-East England. It lays claim to being the first seaside health resort - established as such in 1736. Before then it was a fairly important port for the area, trade was officially fishing and sailing grain to London (unofficially, much of the area's wealth came from smuggling)
This photograph of Fort Crescent was taken after the tramway was built at the turn of the century and before 1911, when the Winter Gardens were built on the bandstand site (note that No3 is now the same height as the others)
