Margate is in the Isle of Thanet, in East Kent, South-East England. It lays claim to
being the first seaside health resort - established as such in 1736.
Before then it was a fairly important port for the area, trade was officially fishing and sailing grain to
London
(unofficially, much of the area's wealth came from smuggling)
